This test determines the presence of antibodies to 21- hydrolases. Presence of this antibody indicates chronic primary adrenal insufficiency or Addison disease. It is commonly caused by the gradual yet harmful autoimmune attack on the adrenal cortex. 21-hydrolase antibodies are a good marker of patients at risk of developing premature ovarian failure in association with first degree Addison disease.
